Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: ENE Wind Stength: 12/18 Surf / Sea State: flat in river - smooth in sea Air Temperature: 22 Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 24.88 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 36 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
It's only the second day of the week but it just gets better and better!
After yesterdays 22 n/miles in the sunshine I did 36 today:) The forecast
didn't look great with winds supposed to be lighter and like yesterday the
best conditions would be in the afternoon as the tide dropped. So relaxing
start at home, a walk along the prom to check the conditions and the breeze
was filling in nicely so I hitched up and headed to The Dip at 12:30, again
had it all to myself and with 18 kts on the gauge I rigged as yesterday,
8.5 on the 147. The wind was a few knots stronger today and after mending
the back end of my Chinook boom I headed out to sea, I had only gone a 100m
when I heard a crack, check my boom thinking it was the back end but it
cracked again and I noticed the front end had snapped. I quickly dropped
in, turned and made it safely back to the beach- luckily no ride in a
rescue boat today! I change to my North boom and was off again for 4 hours
on the water:) I had some mega long runs out to near the shipping channel
ending up in the super smooth water of kite beach. Shame that the wind was
at it's lightest in the flattish water but it was nice gybing close to the
beach:) It wasn't fast with max speeds just over 20 kts I decided to try
Felixstowe Speed spot and beat through the wild water into the super flat
River Deben. With the tide going out it was slow going heading up river but
when I tacked near Bawdsey beach the wind and tide pushed my speeds up to
nearly 25kts! I spent a nice hour in the river and pushed my average up to
23 kts. As I was giving blood at 6:10 I headed back to The Dip to check the
time and noticed Mark Smalling parked in his campervan, I couldn't believe
he had come down without his gear as conditions were pretty much perfect!
It was only 4:10 and I had sailed 26 n/miles so after a quick snack I
decided to sail over 30 n/m and ended up doing 36! The wind had eased a
little so I decided to call it a day, then my second bit of bad luck as my
gps failed to save to card:( I have enough info to post to the GPS site,
have formatted my card so fingers crossed it will work tomorrow as more
breeze forecast and Team GB are going Gold crazy again :)
